Seattle Central College was host on the Seattle College's District Yom Hashoah Holocaust Remembrance ceremony on Thursday, April 20, where we gathered together as a community to remember and learn about the genocide of 6 million Jews, as well as other targeted groups during WWII. The hope is that ceremonies like this will make the words “never again” a reality. One can draw many parallels between the state of the world then and now. Our theme is Shining Light into the Darkness, which we hope will encourage people to take positive action against the ills in our world.
Tom Heller, the son of a survivor of two German concentration camps, spoke at 10:30 a.m. and again at noon. Each presentation was followed by a recitation of the Jewish mourners’ prayer, the lighting of candles, and encouragement to go forth to shine a light.
