The 47th Annual Community Celebration of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. happened at Mount Zion Baptist Church in Seattle from Noon to 1:30pm on Friday, January 17, 2020.

The event's emcee is Monique Ming Laven, KIRO 7 evening anchor and music will be provided by DaNell Daymon and Greater Works.20 MLK SCCtv

This year's keynote speaker is Dr. Tricia Rose, internationally acclaimed scholar and public speaker.  Rose is regularly featured as an expert commentator on NPR, CNN, MSNBC, and other national and local media outlets.  Few scholars are honest enough to address the most difficult and yet richest areas of our culture in an effort to debunk the societal myths and stigmas that plague our psyches in the way Dr. Tricia Rose does.

Special Keynote Speaker is Georgetown University sociology professor, Michael Eric Dyson. Dyson, a frequent contributor to the New York Times and comentator on MSNBC, says of Dr. King, "He was one of the greatest Americans in the history of this land.  He grew, deepened his understanding of American democracy and the opposition to it, and began to call upon America to forge a new path.  He believed that America was essentially a dream.  And as a dream, it could be reimagined."
